College Reading Fast-Track helps learners develop the skills needed to understand complex texts, identify important ideas, evaluate arguments, interpret visual information, and manage college-level reading assignments with greater confidence.
Designed by Dr. Stephanie West, Ed.D., a college professor and Certified Reading Specialist with more than 30 years of experience helping developing readers succeed.
Designed for Educators and Independent Learners: College Reading Fast-Track provides structured, step-by-step instruction for building stronger college-level reading, critical-thinking, and study skills. Educators can use the modules for instruction or learners can purchase them directly for independent study.
For Educators: Use the modules to support instruction in college-readiness courses, developmental education, adult education, tutoring, intervention, first-year experience programs, or high school college-preparation classes. Educators can purchase individual modules or the complete program through Teachers Pay Teachers and use the materials to guide instruction, practice, and assessment.
For Learners: Purchase the modules directly through Teachers Pay Teachers and work through the lessons at your own pace. The program can help you prepare for college placement testing, improve comprehension, strengthen critical-reading skills, and feel more confident with textbooks, academic passages, and college assignments.
As a college reading professor at Mesa Community College, I spent years working with students who arrived on campus with reading scores below 68% on their reading placement exams — capable students who had simply never been shown how to handle college-level reading. By the time they finished my Reading Development Class, that same group was averaging 87% on assignments and 89% on assessments, and only 1% dropped out during their first two years of college.
What I saw over and over wasn't a student problem. It was a preparation gap. Most students are fully capable of succeeding in college, but they were never taught the specific reading strategies and study habits that make dense college material manageable.
That is why I created College Reading Fast-Track. I took the same core strategies I used with my Mesa students—the ones that moved scores from below 68% into the high 80s—and built them into a structured program that educators can teach and learners can complete independently before or during college.
“For the first time, reading instruction finally made sense to me.
I understand what I am doing when I read instead of guessing.”
— Mesa Community College Student, Arizona
“The reading instruction was clear and structured,
and it is helping me feel more confident in my reading abilities.”
— Mesa Community College Student, Arizona
